A male red-rumped parrot mid-flight facing the camera, wings spread wide with dark-tipped blue feathers, against a blurred light-green background.

@crimsonbutterfly I am jealous of the exquisitely colored parrots that are also stupidly quotidian

@reiayanami @crimsonbutterfly few things sound as nice as escaping a Central Valley summer to an Australian winter

Where you have parrots just hanging around and being a nuisance

Have a listen to this. I live in Melbourne, very central and I hear this often during winter like last Saturday lol.

I read that in Aboriginal Australian culture, they are powerful messengers that signal the coming of rain. And indeed they are

@reiayanami @crimsonbutterfly i just realized that Endor in Star wars is literally this soundscape, slowed down, with Humboldt County, California as the backdrop

@NickGates @crimsonbutterfly I forgot to note that it was just the wailing sound, the laughing bird in the last part is the Kookabura which u probs already know.

But, yes, hearing this the first time last year, at 1800 was goosebump inducing. I thought someone was being killed or something.

Imagine if you live in the forest at night, then you hear this and the laughing lol
