@crimsonbutterfly I am jealous of the exquisitely colored parrots that are also stupidly quotidian

@NickGates @crimsonbutterfly haha the most common here is the Rainbow Lorikeet. You guys should come to Australia one day!

@reiayanami @crimsonbutterfly few things sound as nice as escaping a Central Valley summer to an Australian winter
Where you have parrots just hanging around and being a nuisance

@NickGates @crimsonbutterfly
Have a listen to this. I live in Melbourne, very central and I hear this often during winter like last Saturday lol.
I read that in Aboriginal Australian culture, they are powerful messengers that signal the coming of rain. And indeed they are

@reiayanami @crimsonbutterfly i just realized that Endor in Star wars is literally this soundscape, slowed down, with Humboldt County, California as the backdrop

@reiayanami @crimsonbutterfly (it also sounds magical, which it probably doesn't to someone whi gets woken up by them)

@NickGates @crimsonbutterfly I forgot to note that it was just the wailing sound, the laughing bird in the last part is the Kookabura which u probs already know.
But, yes, hearing this the first time last year, at 1800 was goosebump inducing. I thought someone was being killed or something.
Imagine if you live in the forest at night, then you hear this and the laughing lol

@reiayanami @crimsonbutterfly i mean, i get barn owls. If you've never heard them, they definitely sound like a screaming eldritch horror

@crimsonbutterfly @reiayanami I am currently not at home rn and everybody has seen a white-throated magpie-jay but me. ☹️
