Velvet Beauty—stunning specimen geode from Arizona opened partway up to reveal blue crystals of azurite covering green malachite boytroidal bubble forms inside a rounded sphere geode about 7” diameter. The name is by the owner: in 2007 it was very valuable, about $25,000. There are bands of these minerals and host matrix with quartz that line the interior in layers. The predominate colors are blues from dark almost black solid bands to medium blue crystals to light medium blue fine azurite druzy. Seen in 2007 at the Tucson AZ annual Gem & Mineral show. @cobalt I don’t know where my detailed description of this azurite specimen geode went. It was taken in 2007 at one of the venues for the annual Gem & Mineral show. The owner named this piece Velvet Beauty so it will likely always be known by this name. A private collector owns it and it may or may not ever be seen again in public.
