A close-up photo of several yellowjackets building and guarding an exposed paper nest attached to a dark vertical surface. The nest's open hexagonal cells are clearly visible, while the wasps' black-and-yellow bodies and orange legs stand out against the green foliage in the background.

Have not got these in my country but I believe the sting is bad, pain! Hope you got the pic unharmed?

Another reason why I love your country. In late summer, when the wasps have nothing left to do in their nests, they become a real nuisance. When you’re sitting outside having coffee or a barbecue, they show up right away, buzzing around the table and landing on the plates. And you have to be incredibly careful they haven't crawled into your beer or Coke bottle before you put it to your lips.

But the four here were far too busy; I could get really close with my lens without bothering them at all.

We have a few that if stung it damn hurts but not as bad as I read about these guys. Them and Fireants seem to be as mean as anything I find in the African Bushveld.

I don't think they're that bad. They don't sting without a reason. I've only been stung by a wasp once. It really depends on where they get you. Getting stung in the mouth or throat is nasty and dangerous.

Otherwise, it hurts quite a bit at first, but if you get the venom out and cool the area immediately, it's bearable.
