A sweeping view stretches across the lush mountain landscape of the Grazer Bergland as the trail winds its way toward the Tyrnauer Alm. In the foreground, a vibrant green alpine meadow slopes downward, peppered with dark, pointed evergreen trees and a single, leafy deciduous tree standing prominently in the center. In the mid-ground, the valley is a rich tapestry of deep forest and bright green clearings, where a small cluster of farm buildings sits perched on a distant hillside. Farther back, the horizon is filled with layered, hazy blue mountain ridges that fade into the distance under a bright blue sky decorated with soft, wispy clouds.

The Tyrnauer Alm is a celebrated destination within the Almenland Nature Park, one of the largest continuous alpine pasture regions in Europe. This specific path is known for its dramatic transitions from dense, shaded spruce forests to wide-open pastures that have been managed by local farmers for centuries. It's a prime spot for taking in the fresh mountain air of Styria, and if you keep a quiet eye on those distant rocky slopes, you might just spot some of the region's famous alpine ibex, which are known to roam these limestone-rich ridges.

One of the pix I took, back in August 2002, when I was trying to reach the Rote Wand, via the Tyrnauer Alm, in Steiermark, Austria.
