A late evening photo of a small commercial space on a side street of Hanoi's outskirts. The first floor of the building is painted a glowing golden-yellow color, while the shutters and interior are an aqua marine reminiscent of the old limewash of rural Vietnam (but just different enough to connote a modern, self aware take on it. A flowering bush has been painted on the wall. It appears rooted into the foundation of the building and grows up and to the left over a set of shuttered windows. Three motorbikes are parked out front. Beside the flowering bush, a small sign meant to resemble a hanging, hand drawn wooden sign has also been painted onto the wall. It advertises (in Vietnamese) a weight-loss salon. These businesses often resemble spas for women that frame their services as a combination of self-care and pseudoscientific nonsense about weight-loss.
