Cherry plums always are amomg the first cherry trees to bloom, so with their blooming season ending, bird cherries are taking over and their scent can be stronger and sweeter than that of a cherry plum - at lesst this one radiates such a strong scent that I noticed it before even noticing this relatively young, well-hidden tree right next to the pond in Z III.
