Photograph of the Ponte dei Sospiri (Bridge of Sighs) in Venice, Italy, captured from a viewpoint that looks along the narrow canal beneath it. The enclosed white limestone bridge, built in 1600, arches gracefully between two historic buildings: the ornate façade of the Doge’s Palace on the left, with its elegant rows of arches and sculpted details, and the darker, fortress-like walls of the old prison on the right. The bridge features delicate stone lattice windows and low-relief carvings that add to its baroque character. Below, several gondolas glide through the canal, their gondoliers in traditional striped shirts steering tourists beneath this iconic landmark. In the background, the canal continues toward a smaller pedestrian bridge and pastel-colored Venetian buildings. The Bridge of Sighs famously connected the interrogation rooms of the Doge’s Palace to the prison—its poetic name inspired by the idea that prisoners would sigh at their final view of Venice through its small windows.

One of the more famous sights in Venice, the Ponte dei Sospiri (Bridge of Sighs). It was very busy here, understandably, so I did my best to get a pix while we passed it on the way to Piazza San Marco.

I edited the image slightly, to correct the horizon some...
